Q&A: Meet IdealRaw’s Head Nutritionist!

Q: Could you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

 My name is Lisa but some people call me Veggie Lisa. I am a mom of four kids who loves to dance, cook, exercise, shop, decorate, and enjoy all the beautiful things the state of Utah has to offer.

Q: What’s your story? How did you get to where you are now?

 For years, I was the chubby girl by the pool who would hide under her cover up, only to quickly take it off and get as fast into the water as possible. I would envy all of my friends who seemed to be so comfortable with themselves. I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I went to the gym every day, and I tried not to eat too much junk food. I thought maybe my body was meant to be chubby and that I was supposed to be happy with that.

At one point in my life, the scale read in the 200s. Yes, I was pregnant at the time, but had spent a lot of my pregnancy eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. That did not include any vegetables.

After giving birth to my first child, I expected all of that weight to just come off. And sadly, that did not happen. It took me two years just to get back to my starting point, which was not a place I was happy to begin with. Three pregnancies later, I had come to the conclusion that I looked good “for having 4 kids.”

I eventually decided that was not okay with me. I wanted to look better and feel better and I knew that had to mean eating better and training smarter.

I hired an online trainer who helped me see what I was doing wrong, and why my body was carrying an extra 30 pounds of fat. It took me a solid year to lose the weight.

I changed my eating habits completely. I am now a lifelong vegetarian.

Q: What lead you to discover IdealRaw?

I needed to figure out how I would get enough protein to lose fat and build muscle. I consider myself an authority on protein supplements, because I have pretty much tried them all!

I was looking for a high-quality organic plant based protein that didn’t taste super gross or filled with cheap soy protein.

IdealRaw was the first plant based protein that had what I was looking for and that didn’t taste bad. It’s so delicious and helps me reach my needed protein intake.

Q: Tell us about your experience training and helping clients?

After this journey, I really fell in love with the science of nutrition. How our bodies processed the things we ate fascinated me. I became a certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist and also a certified Personal Trainer.  For the last few years I have not only taught my clients how to eat but watched them drop 10, 20, even 30 pounds! One of the things I hear most often from my clients is that once the right formula is given to them, weight loss becomes easy.

Q: What do you believe the secret to fat loss is?

Most diets consist of similar components.  Veggies, protein, good carbs, and healthy fats are all usually part of the equation. But it’s how you actually measure those, when you eat those and how your body is best able to break those down is the secret to fat loss. Before I learned about nutrition, I was doing this part of the process all wrong. Once I figured it out, the weight literally flew off! I actually couldn’t believe how fast my body was releasing it.

Q: What’s your top tip to make eating more veggies enjoyable?

Don’t buy vegetables you don’t like. Chances are if you don’t care for eggplant, no matter how many different ways you prepare it, eggplant still tastes like eggplant.

Q: What are your tips for eating healthy on the go?

Find the veggies you like to eat raw. Raw veggies are always quick and easy. You can also mix up a quick protein shake like IdealRaw and take it on the go.

Q: How do you get your kids to eat veggies?

Feed your kids vegetables every time YOU eat them. They might resist at first, but slowly they will start eating them. No need to ‘disguise’ them as something else. When they ask what it is, tell them, so that they can develop good habits

Q: Any final tips?

Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be complicated.

Eat Veggies. Eat Protein. Drink Water. You will eat good, feel good, and look good!
